Australia Student Visa Support for Students in Vietnam
Structured preparation for a Student visa (subclass 500) application — including the Genuine Student requirement that replaced the old GTE test.
Vietnam is a priority market — and a closely reviewed one
Vietnam is one of Australia's largest source countries for international students, which also means applications from Vietnam are reviewed against a well-established pattern of both strong and weak submissions. Higher English-score expectations, larger financial evidence requirements, and the Genuine Student requirement have all made applications more demanding in recent years, not less.
The Genuine Student requirement
Since March 2024, the Genuine Student (GS) requirement has replaced the old Genuine Temporary Entrant test. You answer a set of structured questions directly in your visa application — each with a 150-word limit — covering your current circumstances and ties to Vietnam, why you chose this specific course and provider, how it connects to your academic background and career goals, and anything else relevant to your case.
Why generic answers are the most common failure point
Because the GS questions are standardized, it's tempting to reuse a template answer, or one drafted by an agent who hasn't actually discussed your situation with you. Generic or copy-paste responses are one of the leading, avoidable causes of refusal — an answer needs to be specific to you, evidenced, and consistent with everything else in your application.
Financial evidence
You'll need to show you can cover tuition, living costs, and travel for yourself (and any dependents travelling with you). As with the GS answers, the amount matters less than whether the funds are clearly and consistently documented — a large, unexplained deposit shortly before applying is a common weak point.
Course and provider choice
Your GS answers need to explain why this course, at this provider, makes sense for you specifically — not just that Australia is a desirable place to study. We help you draft answers that are honest, specific to your actual academic and career path, and consistent with your supporting documents.
Putting it together
We review your Confirmation of Enrolment, financial documents, English test results, and GS statement together, checking that they tell one coherent story rather than reading as disconnected requirements each ticked off separately.

Common questions
What replaced the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) test?
The Genuine Student (GS) requirement, effective for applications from 23 March 2024 onward. It's a structured set of questions answered directly in the online application, rather than a single open-ended statement.
Can I reuse a template answer for the Genuine Student questions?
We'd strongly advise against it. Generic or copy-paste answers are one of the most common, avoidable reasons applications are refused — your answers need to reflect your actual circumstances and be consistent with your documents.
How much money do I need to show?
There's no fixed figure we can quote — it depends on your course length, location, and living costs. What matters most is that the funds are clearly sourced and consistent with your study plan. Current guidance is published by the Department of Home Affairs.
Does Covalyn guarantee my student visa will be approved?
No. Every student visa application is assessed independently. We help you prepare a clear, complete, well-evidenced application — we don't guarantee the outcome.
